About the Texas Wine Marketing Assistance Program

Texas Wine Marketing Assistance Program (TWMAP) – 77th Legislative Session

During the 77th legislative session (2001) House Bill 892 established the Texas Wine Marketing Assistance Program at TDA to assist the Texas wine industry in promoting and marketing Texas wines and educating the public about the Texas wine industry.

According to our most recent annual survey of Texas wineries, the (Direct Economic & Value-Added Impact) for each $1.00 spent in TWMAP funds:

•FY 2005 Survey: $8.50 economic impact to the state of Texas
• FY 2004 Survey: $14.28 economic impact to the state of Texas
•FY 2003 Survey: $9.44 economic impact to the state of Texas

In FY 2005, $250,000 (TWMAP funding) x 850 percent, represents a $2.1 million direct economic benefit to the state.

Note: These figures represent sales in years prior to the launch of TDA’s efforts funded through Senate Bill 1370, which will be addressed in future reports and will greatly impact the numbers.

Major Findings: (FY 2005)

100% of the responding wineries recognize that the Texas Wine Marketing Assistance Program has raised the overall awareness of Texas wines.

96% of the responding wineries recognize that the Texas Wine Marketing Assistance program’s printed material are effective in promoting Texas wines.

92% of the responding wineries indicated they have seen increases in on-site visits.

88% of the responding wineries indicated they have seen increases in annual sales.
