Small batches of premium wine are handcrafted in an old rock barn between historic Granbury and Thorp Springs. A native Texan and the son of Italian immigrants are combining “jeans and genes” to provide Lone Star grapes a path to achieve their highest calling. Stories about the journey can be heard at Barking Rocks.

Guerra Vineyard and Winery is a new winery located in the piney woods of East Texas. This country winery specializes in muscadine and fruit wines. The soil and climate of East Texas is ideal for this native grape, which has been identified as one of nature’s most healthful foods. The muscadine grape and wine are very aromatic and possess a very fruity taste. The fruit wines, all made from fresh fruit, include blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, peach and pear. The vineyard and winery are a family operation of Dr. Manuel and Rosemary Guerra, their daughter Ann Arra, her husband, Mark, and their three sons. A unique tasting room was constructed from the transformation of a hundred-year-old sweet potato smokehouse.

Homestead Winery is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Red River Valley. In 1983, grapes replaced traditional wheat and corn, and the vineyard at Ivanhoe was started. The great Cabernet Sauvignon grape does extremely well in the sandy Ivanhoe soil. In 1989, the winery was bonded and produced its first vintage. Today, production continues to expand and grapes are also purchased from other growers to produce the wide varieties of wines that Homestead offers. The Denison tasting room is continuing to expand in the historic downtown area. Sherry, Port and Red Wine are scheduled for production at the facility, while major crush and wine making operations are still located at the vineyard and winery in Ivanhoe.

Our grapes are hand-selected from vines cropped excessively low to provide the maximum amount of nutrients in the fruit. This technique produces grapes that are bountiful and robust and ensure long length in the palate. You won’t find us in your local grocery store or wine retailer, however you will be hearing more about us through the grapevine. From our vines to your table, we hope you enjoy our wine as much as we enjoyed making it. Our tasting room is decorated with a peacock motif, which is symbolic of the complexity and beauty of a well-crafted wine. You might even see a peacock in the vineyard.

Red Caboose is designed as a destination winery. RCW uses the latest energy-saving technology: geothermal cooling and chilling, PV arrays for generating clean electricity and rainwater collection are only a few features that make Red Caboose green.

Dine, by reservation only, in our subterranean barrel cellar among our barrels or on our veranda with a spectacular view of the vineyard and scenic hillside views. For the adventurous, enjoy a bit of history by spending a night in a converted 1946 Santa Fe caboose. This is the first phase of our B&B theme.

Later in 2008, RCW will construct an events building for parties, weddings, dinners and lodging overlooking our scenic vineyards. "Casitas" surrounding the vineyards will provide quiet, intimate cabin-style lodging. The casitas will be complete in late 2009.

One of our festivities includes our annual RCW Grape Stomp. It is usually scheduled in September, and provides an opportunity for everybody to pick and stomp the grapes.

Birgit and Bruce Anderson, Winemakers

Birgit and Bruce Anderson, winemakers at Sunset Winery, bought the 2-acre property in 1973 and raised their three daughters in the house that is now a winery. During the 20 years they lived there, Bruce made wine from grapes and other fruit grown on the property, and they enjoyed many sunsets from the front porch. Between 1993 and 2003 the Anderson's’ daughter and her family owned the home and 1 acre. A 1995 trip to Napa Valley inspired them to plant a small vineyard on their remaining acre. This led them to several years studying viticulture and enology. By 2003, they bought the family homestead back and converted it into a winery. Located just 15 miles south of downtown Fort Worth, Sunset Winery offers premium wines handcrafted from Texas-grown grapes.
